HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
The Mississippi Department of Transportation held its annual Equipment Operators Roadeo at the Forrest County Multi-Purpose Center in Hattiesburg Thursday.
Around 200 workers from the southern division competed in events such as motor-grader, backhoe and tractor with mower skills.
This annual event lets MDOT workers put their skills to the test. It was also a good way for MDOT employees to get to know each other and have a good time.
"The key for this event is for our maintenance personnel to be able to come together in some good honest competition to hone their skills at these various pieces of equipment so that as they work adjacent to traffic, the motorists as well as them will be a lot safer,” State Maintenance Engineer Heath Patterson said.
Two winners from each category will compete in the statewide event in June.
