On Monday, three limousines full of volunteers for South Central Regional Medical Center were greeted by Laurel Mayor Johnny Magee. This was the final stop on what was being called a “Surprise Ride” for the volunteers who last year gave over 7,000 hours of service.
Mayor Magee gave each of the volunteers a pen and a personal “thank you” to each of the volunteers.
The limousine ride was a way of showing the group that their hard work had not gone unnoticed.
After leaving South Central Place, they made their way to Comfort Care Nursing Center where the residence and staff lined the street with balloons and signs, thanking the volunteers for all their hard work.
Bonnie Smith, volunteer coordinator for SCRMC, said that South Central just wanted to do something special for the group.
“We took this opportunity to honor our volunteers for all they do for us all year,” Smith said. “We have about 70 volunteers and we just wanted to take them on a surprise ride and show how much we appreciate them.”
One individual that greeted the group at Comfort Care Nursing Center was holding a sign that read, “Volunteers Rock," while sitting in a rocking chair.
