Teen charged with sexual battery of a minor

PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

A man is behind bars and charged with sexual battery after a morning incident in Petal.

Luis Sanchez, 18, was arrested Friday morning and booked into the Forrest County Jail with one sexual battery charge.

“We got the call of an 18-year-old male that was discovered in a residence with a 14-year-old,” said Petal Police Detective Sammy Ray.

According to authorities, the incident occurred at a home on Smith Street in Petal.

“The victim and the suspect both knew one another, the relationship was consensual,” said Ray.

Sanchez will make his initial appearance on Monday.

    Southern Miss baseball will be missing four key contributors when the its season opens against Mississippi State on February 16. Hayden Roberts, Taylor Braley, Kirk McCarty and Dylan Burdeaux wrapped up their first minor league seasons in the fall. Roberts, a 34th round MLB draftee of the Colorado Rockies, struck out 45 batters in 21 games with the Grand Junction Rockies.
