Film Studies Pathway program to help coast community college students

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A new partnership between the University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College will help students get a bachelor's degree in film.

The Film Studies Pathway Program starts this fall.

It allows students to begin taking film courses at the community college and finish their course work when they transfer to the film program at USM's Gulf Park campus.

The two schools made the agreement in 2014.

"What this program will do is focus the elective course work of students who know they're coming into USM Gulfpark to major in film to ensure that every single course they take prepares them to be a film major," said David R. Davies, Ph.D., director of the School of Mass Communication and Journalism at Southern Miss.

USM is the only university in the state to offer a bachelor's degree in film.
