A local high school student was recently awarded the GIVE Award for outstanding volunteer service.
Matthew Gallardo was recently recognized by Volunteer Mississippi in coordination with the Office of Governor Phil Bryant and First Lady Deborah Bryant as the Outstanding Disabilities Service by a Youth.
Despite a schedule packed with classes and extracurricular activities, the Sacred Heart High School student participates in volunteer or service activities nearly every week.
Gallardo says that even during college and the early stresses of work that he will be trying to find time to help those in need.
"I'm positive, any chance I get I'll be trying to continue helping people, even during college and during the early stresses of work and young adulthood,” said Gallardo. “I'm still going to try and find time to help those who need it."

Matthew plans to attend Duke University once he graduates from high school.
