Joe Tatum, longtime businessman and philanthropist, dies

HATTIESBURG, MS -

A Hattiesburg businessman and philanthropist has died. 

Joe Tatum died at his home Tuesday.

Tatum and his wife Virginia were lead gift contributors to a theater at William Carey University.  

Tatum had an extensive business career as co-founder of Tatum Development Corporation, Tatum Timber Company and HMT Management Corporation. 

He also served on the boards of directors of other businesses.

Visitation will be held Friday morning at 10:00 at Trinity Episcopal Church’s Parish Hall. 

The funeral will follow at 11:30 – also at the church.

Tatum was 91.
