Bond set for Jones County shooting suspect

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A man accused of shooting a woman at her workplace Monday morning made his initial appearance in court Tuesday.

David Keyes is charged with aggravated assault, and domestic violence. Jones County Justice Court Judge Billie Graham set Keyes bond at $50,000 cash only.

Keyes, 44, a Mize native, followed a female acquaintance to her place of employment Monday morning when an argument ensued.

The argument turned violent as Keyes shot the victim one time and fled the scene in a silver Ford Focus rental car, according to the Jones County Sheriff's Department.

A search immediately went underway looking for Keyes, enlisting the help of the public.

The Jones County Sheriffs Department Crime Suppression Unit, the Investigative Division and Smith and Covington County Sheriff's Departments assisted in the search.

Keyes was located at the intersection of Ed Mayfield and Salem School Road Monday afternoon.

He was taken into custody without incident. The weapon believed to be used in the shooting earlier in the day was also found on the property.

Keyes remains housed in the Jones County Jail.
