PETAL, MS (WDAM) - Southeastern Native-American culture will be celebrated in the Friendly City this weekend.
The 14th annual Petal-Southern Miss Pow Wow will take place Saturday and Sunday at Hinton Park.
It will be hosted by the USM Inter-Tribal Society and it will feature craft-making, food, and lots of dancing.
"American Indians are only two percent of the population, so if we don't have some sort of outreach like this, there may be people that never experience anything American-Indian," said Tammy Greer, Ph.D., director of the Center for American Indian Research and Studies (CAIRS) at Southern Miss. "We have a really awesome culture that we want to share with people."
Several tribes will be represented at the Pow Wow.
