Bond set for Laurel man charged with statutory rape

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - A 21-year-old Laurel man arrested for statutory rape made his initial appearance in court Tuesday.

Judge Howell Beech set Rodney Tyler Parker's bond at $100,000.

According to a Jones County Sheriff's Department press release, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Dick Sumrall Road regarding a statutory rape complaint on April 5.

Rodney Tyler Parker, 21, had been staying at the residence for a couple of months and was given permission by the homeowners. The homeowners have a 14-year-old daughter, according to the press release.

The daughter told her parents that Parker had come into her room at night and forced himself on her. According to the press release, their daughter became pregnant and that's when the parents became aware of the situation.

After Parker was interviewed by investigators, he admitted to the inappropriate behavior and was charged with statutory rape.
