PURVIS, MS (WDAM) -

The wounded Minutemen of Mississippi held its annual golf tournament to help Mississippi veterans in all branches of the military.

The four-man scramble golf event held Monday at pine Creek Golf Club near Purvis is now in its sixth year and has raised nearly $250,000 since its inception. Over 175 players participated in the gold event.

On Monday, eight service veterans received a check for over $5,000 each.

The money goes to help these men with medical bills and other expenses.

"Yes, this is a perpetual thing we hope. As long as our golfers will keep supporting us we'll keep doing it,” said Gen. James “Ike” Pylant, retired General of the Army National Guard.

One of the recipients remarked how grateful he and the other veterans were for the organization holding this annual event.

"And for the crowd, the donors, everyone that's here, they have absolutely no idea how much stress and worry it eliminated from our lives,” Army veteran Josh Wells said.
