HATTIESBURG, MS -

A new program in Hattiesburg is spreading awareness about autism.

The "Speak up 4 Autism" organization kicked off its first event this afternoon to bring families together. There were fun activities for children to enjoy, like face painting, bounce houses and a balloon release. The organization will act as a support group for families and educate public about autism. At the end of the year the group plans to become a non-profit.

“It's just good to be out to educate and learn that we aren’t the only ones because sometimes we feel like we walk this road alone,” said mother Amanda Smith.

The organization is for children of all ages. To learn more about the event email coordinator Deniece Hinton at Speakup4autismhub@gmail.com.
