LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -
Dozens of dump trucks, humvees and emergency response vehicles were lined up in downtown Laurel Saturday to give children a close-up look at how they operate.
It was part of the third annual "Touch a Truck," a fundraiser for Laurel Main Street.
Kids were invited to sit in fire trucks, police cars and even a Coast Guard boat.
They also met first responders, military personnel and other role models who serve the community.
Money raised will be used for downtown lighting projects.
"We will be professionally lighting the downtown," said Judi Holifield, executive director of Laurel Main Street. "So, there will be other times that we'll light, not just the holidays, but pre-events, 4th of July, anything special that's coming up, we'll be able to light it up."
