A Laurel public education support group is hoping a new running event held Saturday will help students do better on college admissions tests.
The inaugural 10K Run for Education at the Sawmill Square Mall was hosted by the Association for Excellence in Education.
Funds raised will be used to pay for instructors for ACT prep courses at Jones County Junior College.
"We did one this past fall, we want to be able to do two ACT preps," said Heather Brown, chairperson for the AEE. "So, hopefully we'll be able to do that with this fundraiser."
About 50 runners took part in the event.
