Incumbent election commissioner Phillips says experience key to doing good job

HATTIESBURG, MS - A long-time Forrest County election commissioner is running for a 6th term.

Charles Phillips said his 20 years of experience overseeing elections qualifies him to keep the District One position.

He's retired from the concrete pipe business and is now a substitute teacher.

"Well, you get to know the people, number one, and you get to know the locations of everybody," said Phillips. "You recognize the people that are moving in and moving out, the locations. It's some vast experience needed to run this office and we have five capable people up there right now that's doing this."

Phillips has one opponent so far, first-time candidate Tyler Wood.

The qualifying deadline for candidates is June 6.
