Hattiesburg advocacy/support group for Autism is hosting a free fun day event in the Hub city to spread awareness, promoting understanding, and acceptance of Autism within the community. We would like everyone to come out and enjoy a family event while helping us take one step closer to making a difference on Autism Awareness.

Autism incidence in the United States has risen from 1 in 110 in 2008 to 1 in 88 in 2012, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability, but the national response has been insufficient in addressing disparities in equal access to appropriate education, employment, independent living and diagnostic and treatment services.  The challenges of accessing care, support and education faced by families are often complex and lifelong, creating significant financial and other hardships.

Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and affects a person's ability to communicate and interact with others. Autism is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is a "spectrum disorder" that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees. There is no known single cause for autism, but increased awareness and funding can help families today.
