HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Last season the Southern Miss Football team was riddled with injuries in the tight end position, but this year a strong group of athletes and many fresh ideas may change the way tight ends have been utilized in the past.
One of the tight ends that didn't see much playing time due to injury is Julian Allen.
Allen said, "It feels good I've been injured the past two years and it feels good to be back out there with my brothers, doing what I love with my team."
Head Coach Jay Hopson said, "I think we have some good depth at tight end and I think we're definitely going to have some fun ways to use our tight ends, because we do have plenty of depth at that position."
Pretty soon this talented group will fight for the starting job.
"I think the more these guys do on the practice field the more they will do on the game field," said tight ends coach Desmond Lindsey. "There is definitely going to be more competition because a lot of guys out here are very talented."
