With a red hot winning streak, the Hattiesburg Tigers clinched first place in its 5A district.
Coming off of last night’s 14-4 victory over Pearl River Central, the team has plenty to celebrate.
“We’re proud of these guys they have won 15 in a row now, and they have worked really hard to accomplish that feat and we’re hoping they can continue the hard work and effort and keep moving forward," Head Coach Joe Hartfield said.
All of that hard work has landed the Tigers the number three spot in the state rankings.
“It's terrific cause we don’t have to worry about anything, I mean yes we want to win the rest of our games, and go out 25-1 or whatever we can, but we don’t have to sit there and stress and be too concerned about it,” Junior Noah Thorton said. “We can just let loose and have fun out there.”
Letting loose is exactly what the team did Wednesday afternoon.
The coaches had a fun surprise planned for the team. With a little trickery, a team picture turned into a good ole fashioned water balloon fight.
“I thought it was going to be a banner or something, but it was water balloons," Sophomore Jay Reedy said. "That was the first time I’ve ever been hit with water balloons from coaches.”
As 2016 district champions, the Tigers feel confident moving forward.
“It feels great being 15-1 and 7-0 in district. I can’t ask for anything better,” Reedy said.
The Tigers will play at Gulfport in a non-conference game on April 7 at 6 p.m.
