With the election in November, there will only be a few names on the ballot on Election Day.
Besides the presidential candidate and congressional candidates, the only other names that one may see is the election commissioner in one’s voting district.
Tyler Wood has now thrown his name into the hat for the position of election commissioner in district 1 in Forrest County.
He is 18 years old and only recently voted for the first time.
"I want to see new hope for fair elections happening again,” Wood said. “The past elections that we have had were not completely fair. I would like to bring back new hope for fair elections for republicans and democrats.”
He will be facing long-time incumbent Charles Phillips for the position.
"The election laws are always changing and I want to make sure that those changes are implemented fairly and effectively."
If elected, he would become the youngest person to hold that office in the area.
The qualifying deadline for the position is June 6.
