The Mize High School Baseball team hosted a military appreciation tournament at Mize High School Saturday.
The schedule for the day started with Mize against Mendenhall at 11 a.m., Mendenhall against Salem at 1:30 p.m. and closed with Mize against Salem at 3:45 p.m. All veterans and active service members were recognized at the game and given free entry to the game with a military ID. Col. John W. Logan of Prentiss threw the first pitch at 10:55 a.m.
The team wore camouflage jerseys special to the event were auctioned during the game. All of the proceeds of the silent auction as well as those in the donation box from concession orders will go to Wounded Warrior of Mississippi. President of the organization Cheryl Bruce, received the contribution.
Mize Baseball partnered with Eagle Green Energy and together awarded a paid vacation to Montana for a trout fishing excursion on the Yellowstone River just before the first pitch. The award included a free cabin, free meals, transportation to and from the airport and for the duration of the stay, free fishing tackle rental, and free licensing documents to fish for one veteran and a guest present at the first game.
United Blood Services truck was also on hand to hold a blood drive, and guests were able to purchase crawfish plates at the game.
