UPDATE: Wayne Co. officials found new evidence involving manhunt

WAYNE COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Wayne County officials are currently working on a new lead involving a manhunt in wooded area in the Denham community, just east of Waynesboro.

Sheriff Jody Ashley, says the stolen car was from Texas and more information will be available soon. 

At about 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Sheriff Jody Ashley was on a routine patrol when he noticed a car traveling at a high speed around the area of Highway 184. He engaged in a high-speed pursuit but the vehicle evaded capture.

Later, the vehicle, which had no tag, was found wrecked and officials said the suspect fled into a wooded area with multiple agencies participating in the manhunt. 

The car was a Toyota Carolla.  It had a Texas inspection sticker and Ashley said there was a rifle in the trunk.     

The suspect is described as a black male in a black and white T-shirt.

Authorities are not ruling out the possibility of the suspect being armed.

Residents are advised to be on the lookout. Anyone with information related to the suspect can call the Sheriff's Department at (601) 735-2323.
