HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The American Red Cross is appealing for more volunteers in the Pine Belt to help with disaster recovery.

Many volunteers from across the nation are still in the Hattiesburg area, helping victims of the recent flooding.

And some Pine Belt volunteers are too, but Red Cross personnel said they need more people from this area.

And they said now is the time to get involved, because you'll need to be trained.

"We need people to call on, we need people who can spare some time," said Bill Martin, a local volunteer. "Maybe it's a day, maybe it's a week, maybe it's two or three weeks in a disaster like this, but whatever is reasonable giving their time."

"At the end of the day, you know you've helped someone, even if it's just a little bit and it's a part of a recovery effort," said Brandy Corley, another volunteer from the Hattiesburg area. "Sometime, it's just to listen to (the victim), to the experience of it, that thankfully, they all made it out safe."

If you'd like to volunteer, call the Hattiesburg office of the American Red Cross at (601) 582-8151.
