HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hundreds of Hattiesburg-area children got an early start on Easter Saturday by taking part in an annual holiday event that's been around for nearly 70 years.
They came to Vernon Dahmer Park for the 69th Lion's Club and City of Hattiesburg Community Easter Egg Hunt.
They ran across several different fields, where more than 7,000 eggs were placed.
The youngsters also met the Easter Bunny and participated in lots of games and other activities.
"We love doing this and we love keeping it a traditional annual thing, just because we want to give back to the community as much as we can," said Bonnie Keaton, president of the Hattiesburg Lion's Club.
Hattiesburg Police Saturday also hosted a 2nd annual Easter Egg Hunt at Hope Park on Katie Avenue. Kids there hunted for plastic eggs and Mardi Gras-style beads, and a few even met Mickey Mouse.
