The Longleaf Heights Neighborhood Association hosted a run this morning to celebrate their success as a community.
The “Resilience 5K” took place at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 8 a.m. Members of the community ran through the new section of Longleaf Trace adjoining the neighborhood to strengthen their relationships with businesses and people in the neighborhood. The group also reflected on their ability to bounce back and rebuild the area since the 2013 tornado.
“We feel it’s not only important for a neighborhood to rebuild but also withstand outside pressures, like when the tornado cut through the neighborhood several years ago," said organizer Brian Casey. "We want to encourage the neighborhood to come back and rebuild."
The money raised will go toward neighborhood signs and outreach to other areas of Longleaf Heights.
