A local fraternity at The University of Southern Mississippi gave a large check to the school's foundation Wednesday.
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity brought a check for $5,000 to the USM Foundation.
The amount completed a $15,000 endowment, which will hopefully leave a positive lasting legacy and aid future students.
The fraternity’s president said it set up the scholarship to help those students in need of more assistance than what they might normally get.
“It makes me feel really proud that we are upholding our fraternity traditions and the things that we basically stand for and the principles that we were founded upon such as manhood, scholarship, perseverance and uplifting,” Graduate adviser Thadren Kennedy said. “We really hope that really this shows that we care about scholarships.”
This endowment is the first of its kind for an NPHC fraternity at the university.
