HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
The Hattiesburg Police Department held a class about domestic violence at the Hattiesburg Cultural Center.
People learned how to look for signs of domestic violence and how to protect themselves and others from it. The HPD Victim Service Unit was created in 2008 and has three domestic detectives and two victim advocates in it. HPD wants to encourage people to contact them if they feel threatened.
“A big misconception about domestic violence is that it is a family problem, this is our business what goes on in our house is our business, but domestic violence reaches outside of the home,” said Lt. Latosha Meyers-Mitchell. “If you are a victim of domestic violence it will show.”
If you are a victim of domestic violence, you can call the Domestic Abuse Family Shelter Crisis number 1-800-649-1092.
