Flood Recovery Center to open in Hattiesburg

PINE BELT (WDAM) -

A Volunteer Recovery Center will open Monday at 9 a.m. at the Volunteer House on Buschman Street in Hattiesburg, according to United Way of Southeast Mississippi.

Volunteers interested in helping with flood cleanup can go to the Volunteer House next week between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and receive a safety briefing before being assigned an area to clean up. 

The center is also asking for clean-up supplies that can also be delivered to the Volunteer House. For the full list, click here.

Also, if anyone is interested in another cleanup, the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) will conduct Muck Out training at Jackie Dole Sherrill Community on Monday at 1 p.m.

To help with recovery efforts, the United Way Flood Response and Recovery Disaster Fund has been set up for donations. 

Here's how you can give: 

  • Donations can be given online here
  • Donations can be mailed to United Way SEMS at P.O. Box 1648, Hattiesburg, MS 39403. Please indicate a donation to the UWSEMS Flood Response and Recovery Disaster Fund in the memo of your check or money order.
  • Donations can be made by credit card by calling United Way SEMS at 601.545.7141.

    Hattiesburg police are searching for a man wanted in a forgery-uttering case. HPD spokesman Ryan Moore said the man wrote a fraudulent check for a drink machine at a business in the 600 block of Campbell Loop Drive in Hattiesburg.
