Representatives from Mississippi Development Authority will lead a delegation of Mississippi companies on a business development mission to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from June 6-10, 2016. The trip is designed to connect Mississippi companies interested in expanding trade and building new business relationships with prospects in South America. An optional stop may be provided upon request.
"This mission provides participating companies the opportunity to forge connections with potential buyers, as well as generate new investment through international trade," said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough, Jr. "We invite Mississippi companies interested in doing business with Brazil to join the Mississippi delegation on this important mission."
Brazil has the fifth largest population in the world and the seventh largest economy. In 2014, the U.S. was the second largest exporter to Brazil.
Leading sectors for U.S. exports to Brazil include: agricultural machinery and services, aircraft and parts, airports, automotive, chemicals, computer hardware, defense, drugs and pharmaceuticals, electrical power systems, environmental technologies, medical equipment, mining equipment, oil and gas, renewable energy, safety and security, software and services, telecommunications and transportation.
MDA works with qualified potential buyers, agents, distributors and joint venture partners from Brazil prior to meeting with members of the state delegation. MDA also works with Mississippi companies before, during and after the trip to help them best capitalize on opportunities realized as a result of participation.
Grant assistance is available to eligible businesses to help defray costs associated with participating in the business development mission. The U.S. Small Business Administration-funded Mississippi State Trade Export Promotion program reimburses eligible businesses up to 50 percent of travel costs, including airfare, lodging and per diem, and it provides interpretation services at no cost. Additional services include scheduled appointments with qualified buyers covered at 75 percent and free pre-mission market research and business potential assessment.
