JACKSON, MS (WDAM) -

Laurel defeats Wayne County for the fourth time this season to become 5A state champions for the first time in school history.

The Golden Tornadoes and War Eagles were neck and neck in the first two quarters of play, but in the second half the tornadoes spun away to a 71-47 victory Friday night at the Mississippi Coliseum.

At the end of the third quarter Laurel had this game firmly in hand with a 56-29 lead and Wayne County could never close the gap.

Dontario Drummond scored 23 points to go along with five rebounds and five steals to lead the charge against the War Eagles.
