Forrest Co. residents urged to prepare for flooding, possible evacuations

FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Due to significant flooding in the area, the Petal Police Department is requesting that low-lying areas around the Leaf River make plans to evacuate.

If you live in one of these areas, make plans to evacuate:

  • The businesses South of Carterville Rd. on S. Main St. 
  • Dawson's Cut Off
  • S. George Street around W. 9th & W. 10th Ave.
  • McInnis Street from W. 7th Avenue to W. 5 Ave.
  • Areas along Hwy 11
  • W.1st Avenue and all streets that run off of it, (N. Railroad, Dixie, McKinnon, Brentwood, Mitchell etc.)
  • Areas around Matthew's Branch Creek
  • Areas around Green's Creek
  • Forrest Garden Trailer Park off Jones St. 

According to the Petal Police Department, it will continue to update on the status of evacuation if needed, but the department said these areas in particular need to be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

    Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict confirms a 2-year-old girl died at Forrest General Hospital over the weekend due to complications from the flu. Benedict said the child is from Sumrall.
