LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

The seasonal mosquito spraying program will begin one month earlier this year, according to an LPD press release.

According to the press release, earlier than usual mosquito problems is expected because of warmer temperatures and standing water from recent rainfall.

Diseases like West Nile and Zika virus can be transmitted by mosquitoes.

The spraying program will begin on March 21 after consultation with Laurel city and police administrations.

LPD said that the extra cost is essential to help prevent the spread of these diseases, according to the press release.
