Flooding reported in parts of the Pine Belt

PINE BELT (WDAM) - Severe weather and heavy rains drenched the Pine Belt Thursday and flash flood warnings have been issued in multiple counties across the area.

So far, 2-6 inches of rain has been reported across the area, and residents could be expecting more through Sunday.

Area-wide road closures have been reported throughout the night due to flooding and there have been a couple high-water rescues in Laurel.

Volunteer units are out in Jones County reporting multiple roads impassable due to flooding, according to Lance Chancellor with the Jones County Fire Department.

In Lamar County, it has been reported that there is flooding off Weathersby and Shears Road as well as Sam Rayburn Road.

According to the National Weather Service, Covington, Jefferson Davis and Smith counties have seen up to 3 to 4 inches of rain Thursday night. Greene, Perry, Wayne, Jasper, Marion, Forrest and Lamar and Jones counties have received up to 2 to 3 inches of rain.

Officials advise residents in the Pine Belt to stay off the roads and use caution.
