PINE BELT (WDAM) -

Bedford Alzheimer’s Care Center has received approval from the Mississippi State Department of Health for its Certificate of Need.

The approval paves the way for its new $4 million state-of-the-art nursing facility which is currently under construction.

It will be the first of its kind in the Pine Belt and will be able to house up to 60 residents. The center currently houses 20 residents and received a CMS 5-star rating and were recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top nursing homes in the state for its standard of care.

According to Pam McKee Kelly, administrator for Bedford Alzheimer’s Care Center, this new facility will be the first, free-standing center that focuses specifically on the special needs the residents require.

“This disease is chronic, as the older population grows and increases, there’s got to be folks around specially trained, specifically trained with a specific environment for them in their special needs, they deserve that,” Kelly said.

The Bedford Alzheimer’s Care Center will open its doors to the new facility in about six months.
