The University of Southern Mississippi is hosting a three-day event that is exploring ways to make professional sports venues more safe and secure.

USM's National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) is holding the first Professional Sport Facilities Safety and Security Summit at the Trent Lott Center.

During the conference, facility managers from the U.S. and Europe are meeting with experts in facilities design, as well as officials from the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration.

A list of "best practices" for safety and security will be developed and presented at another national conference in Phoenix, Arizona, in July.

NCS4 also hosts national summits on safety and security for high school and intercollegiate athletics, as well as marathons.

The summit will conclude Thursday.
