COLUMBIA, MS (WDAM) -

A program that helps folks in need of a hot meal is spreading to other areas.

Christian Services and Woodlawn Pentecostal Church in Columbia have teamed up to bring their Meals on Wheels to residents. The program kicked off its very first day today as volunteers from the church was out delivering hot cooked meals to homebound and invalid members of the community. The church is using the Meals on Wheels as an outreach extension to help those that may otherwise be forgotten.

"I cooked offshore for years and when I got home I seen some people that didn't even have enough to eat a bowl of rice, you know," said Charles Rose, a volunteer with Woodlawn Pentecostal Church. "And I thought wouldn't it be great if we had something like this in Columbia as an outreach program, you know. I stress it to every community around, try to get this program going. Christian Services helped us and we're real pleased with it."

If you wish to get involved with Woodlawn's Meal on Wheels program you can call 601-736-5128. They only deliver on Mondays.

The campus of William Carey was calm as the clock struck midnight and the date turned to January 21, 2017. Then-freshman soccer player Taylor Gautreaux turned in at about 1 a.m. She would be awoken two hours later to the sounds of a violent tornado just outside her dorm room wall.
