HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Forrest County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing then adopted a resolution on the tax increment financing project for the construction of a new boutique hotel in midtown Hattiesburg.
Forrest County Board President David Hogan said this is the first significant project since the Midtown project was laid out.
The estimated $60 million site will include Hotel Indigo and spaces for retail and restaurants, all to be located on approximately 7 acres at the former Elam Arms dormitory site across Hardy Street from the Southern Miss campus.
"We are very excited about this Elam Arms project," Hogan said. "You're talking about a $60 million project with up to 600 new jobs."
There is also a three and a half acre parcel that adjoins the property for a residential development.
The plans also include 25,000 square feet of retail space and a parking tower required for the project.
