Teenager killed, one in custody after Jasper County shooting

JASPER COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A teenager is dead, and another one is in custody after a fatal shooting in Jasper County.

Authorities were called to the suspect's mobile home on County Road 237 in the Moss Community after a 911 call came in around 8:45 p.m. Sunday. 

Captain Robert Morris, investigator with The Jasper County Sheriff's Department, said the incident happened during a party.They are investigating whether or not the shooting was accidental, or intentional.

Authorities aren't releasing the names of  the victim, or the suspect until further investigation has been done.

The teen killed is a student at Stringer Attendance Center.

The autopsy on the teen will be conducted Tuesday.

No charges have been filed at this time. There was no altercation at the party, and about eight people were in attendance.

    A lawsuit involving Forrest County and the Pat Harrison Waterway District has been settled.  Forrest County will pay the district $1.35 million in two installments of $675,000.00.   The county will get the decades-old district office on Highway 49.  Board of Supervisors president David Hogan said the building will probably be donated to Forrest General Hospital.  "Forrest General has been awfully good at working with us on things such as inmate medica...
