Laurel MHP officer being released from hospital

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Mississippi Highway Patrol officer Trea Staples was released from the hospital on Friday, March 4, and returning home.

The report came from a post on Staples' Facebook page early Friday morning.

Staples was in the hospital recovering from being shot in a standoff in Tishomingo County on Feb. 20.

Staples left the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson at roughly 3 p.m. on Friday, escorted by his fellow troopers. They made it to his home in Laurel later that evening.
