Laurel MHP officer being released from hospital

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Mississippi Highway Patrol officer Trea Staples was released from the hospital on Friday, March 4, and returning home.

The report came from a post on Staples' Facebook page early Friday morning. 

Staples was in the hospital recovering from being shot in a standoff in Tishomingo County on Feb. 20.

Staples left the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson at roughly 3 p.m. on Friday, escorted by his fellow troopers. They made it to his home in Laurel later that evening.

    Southern Miss baseball will be missing four key contributors when the its season opens against Mississippi State on February 16. Hayden Roberts, Taylor Braley, Kirk McCarty and Dylan Burdeaux wrapped up their first minor league seasons in the fall. Roberts, a 34th round MLB draftee of the Colorado Rockies, struck out 45 batters in 21 games with the Grand Junction Rockies.
