HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Hattiesburg High School junior ROTC program sponsored a blood drive at the school Wednesday.

United Blood Services spokesperson Katie Martin said a recent decline in donations and the cold and flu season has taken a toll on the local supply. Martin said the help from these students will support our local hospitals replenish its much needed supply.

"There is many ways you can help people out in the community and even if you can't afford to give money or clothes or anything the best way is to help people health wise,” said Tyric Sharfner, junior ROTC member.

Donors walked away with a free t-shirt and seniors earned a red cord to wear on graduation day.

The group exceeded last year’s goal of 61 units.
