LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Monday traffic stop on Interstate 59 in Lamar County led authorities to drug-laced candy.
Authorities recovered multiple pieces of candy laced with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) from a vehicle passing through the county, according to Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel.
"We haven't really seen that around here before, and I would hate to know some kids got a hold of it and not know what it was," Rigel said. "We sent it off to the state crime lab for testing, to determine the exact THC content."
The driver admitted he purchased it in Arizona by using a prescription ID card for cannabis.
"When you cross the state line in Mississippi, it's illegal, and it's not something we tend to see around here on a regular basis," Rigel said.
Charges on the driver are pending the results from the Mississippi Crime lab, and the case could be presented to the grand jury for further action.
