Richard Crabtree and Chris Bishop were arrested by the Laurel Police Department for passing counterfeit $20 and $100 bills to local merchants.
Authorities said they were contacted by several businesses in the Laurel area about the fake money being used to pay for merchandise in their stores. Investigators said they set up surveillance teams in the area of the men’s activities and an alert employee contacted them when the two men were recognized as the suspects involved with the fake money.
Both men are charged with uttering forgery and will make their initial appearance in Laurel Municipal Court on Monday where Judge Kyle Robertson will set their bond.
The Laurel Police Department is asking merchants and residents to be on the lookout for counterfeit $20 and $100 bills that may still be circulating in the area.
Both Crabtree and Bishop are residents from Wayne County.
