PETAL, MS (WDAM) - The regional Veterans Administration out of Jackson held a health clinic for area veterans in Petal on Wednesday.
The VA Medical Center's Rural Health Outreach Team held the event at the Petal Civic Center, where veterans had a chance to ask about pending claims, how to register for eligibility with the VA and a variety of other issues that concern military members.
Representatives from the organization were on hand to offer assistance with health care services and veterans benefit literature.
Darryl Brady, director of the Mississippi VA Regional Office, said his office is trying to improve veterans experience in dealing with the VA.
"We are here to serve the men and women who have served us and our great country, it's our duty and our responsibility," Brady said. "We want to do everything we can to help make their life better and transition back to civilian life a positive thing and it feels good when you see so many veterans and dependents out here looking for our assistance, because that's what we're here for."
The Outreach Team will return to the Pine Belt in three or four months for follow-up visits and to assist veterans that were not able to attend Wednesday's clinic.
