Hattiesburg man in overturned murder conviction case found guilty on weapon charge
HATTIESBURG, MS -
On Wednesday, at the Forrest County circuit Courthouse, a Hattiesburg man was found guilty on a weapons charge.
Defendant Jarious Collins was found guilty by a jury on the weapons charge he was facing.
Judge Bob Helfrich sentenced him to life without the benefit of parole because of the habitual offender status he had prior to this trial.
Collins' murder conviction was overturned by the state supreme court has a new trial date.
Jury selection began for Jarius Collins Tuesday, who was convicted in the 2011 killing of Ebony Jenkins. Collins faces a weapon charge in this trial and a murder charge on May 9. The state high court cited minor errors during the original trial as the reason for overturning the verdict.
