The Heidelberg High School girl's basketball team finished off the 2015-2016 regular season doing something the Lady Oilers' program has never done: Go undefeated.
On Friday night, Heidelberg defeated Enterprise 54-21 to complete the regular season a perfect 26-0.
An undefeated season was a lofty goal at the beginning of the season, but head coach Deneshia Faulkner knew it was an attainable one.
"That (going undefeated) actually was one of our goals," Faulkner said. "So I knew it was something that was definitely possible, but I'm just proud they were able to reach it."
What makes this season even more impressive is that the Lady Oilers are just four years removed from finishing a season with just seven victories.
Junior guard Whitney Waters said getting to the top has been hard work, but well worth it.
"We've come a long way," Waters said. "We know what it feels like to be at the bottom, so while we're up here at the top, 26-0, we don't even know what to do. We just want to keep achieving better."
And achieving better, a state championship in particular, is exactly what the Lady Oilers have their eyes set on heading into the postseason.
They said it would be a dream come true.
"To go to state and win state and get a ring. I would be speechless," Waters said.
Coach Faulkner added, "For me to be able to see them hold that gold ball, that would be just amazing to me."
