A group of Hattiesburg eye surgeons is helping some people who need eye surgery, but cannot afford it.
Doctors at Southern Eye Center performed four surgeries Friday, free of charge, as part of the Gift of Sight program.
One of the patients was Mattie Burns of Enterprise. She had a cataract removed.
"It means good for me, if I'm able to see again," Burns said before her procedure. "I have a grand baby I haven't seen, not clearly, in about a year-and-a-half."
"I've been very blessed in my life and any little way that I can give back and help out, I want to do that," said Joseph Childs, M.D., cataract and glaucoma surgeon who performed Burns' surgery.
Southern Eye Center also performs Gift of Sight surgeries for the annual "Make a Difference Day."
