Report: Southern Miss to name new Offensive Coordinator

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A new Offensive Coordinator for The University of Southern Mississippi may be announced soon, according to a USA Today report.

According to the report, USM is expected to hire Former Kentucky offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson.

Dawson was fired this year after a 5-7 season. During Dawson's stay at Kentucky, the team's running game improved, but the team scored 4.5 points less than they did in the previous season, according to the report.

Dawson has also worked at West Virginia in the past.

Southern will open their season against Kentucky on Sept. 3 at Kentucky.

This hire comes after Jay Hopson replaced former head coach Todd Monken after he became the offensive coordinator for The Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
