JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A Jones County man made his initial appearance for a sexual battery charge Wednesday afternoon at Jones County Justice Court.

David Wade, 38 of Ovett, was arrested after Jones County investigators received a referral packet from the Department Human Services stating that a 17-year-old girl had told an adult that she had been touched inappropriately by Wade, according to JCSD.

Jones County Justice Judge Howell Beach set his bond at $30,000.

According to the sheriff’s department, the victim said in a forensic interview she had trouble sleeping one night and Wade gave her a sleeping aid. She awoke several hours later to find Wade inappropriately touching her.

A warrant was issued for Wade’s arrest and he was taken into custody. If convicted, Wade could serve a maximum 30 years in prison.
