The homicide victim involved in a Prentiss motel shooting has been identified.

Around 11:30 pm. on Feb. 3 Prentiss Police were dispatched to the Western Motel after hearing reports of shots fired.

When authorities arrived, they found one victim who was suffering from an apparent gun shot wound lying next to a motel room. That victim was identified as Jhyrod Finch from Atlanta, Georgia. Finch was sent to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.

Another victim was found dead inside of a motel room.

According to Chief Joe Bullock with the Prentiss Police Department, Finch identified the deceased as his cousin, Marquis Porter from Atlanta, Georgia.

Porter died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Bullock said in an issued statement that police believe the crimes are narcotic related.

The suspect fled the scene before law enforcement arrived but was believed to have been injured in the exchange of gunfire, according to Bullock.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Prentiss Police Department are still investigating the incident.
