LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - The Laurel Police Department held their annual D.A.R.E graduation ceremony Friday at the Laurel Middle School.
Over 200 students took part as they officially completed the 10-week course.
The D.A.R.E program educates students the dangers of drugs, alcohol and gangs.
It also helps to instill the confidence for the kids to just say no to drugs.
Shannon Caraway, sergeant with the Laurel Police Department, said that what the students learn in class carries over into their lives outside of school.
"You know a lot of them say that they were scared to speak up and scared to say things when people would bully them but because the D.A.R.E. program instills confidence and staying committed, they can just say no to drugs and walk away," Caraway said.
Certificates of graduation were handed out during the program and afterward, the kids were treated to pizza for lunch.
