Mississippi Museum of Art hosts pop up exhibition of print and book makers

JACKSON, MS (WDAM) -

This is a news release from the Mississippi Museum of Art

The Mississippi Museum of Art (the Museum) is excited to announce its February slate of Third Thursday programming. Every third Thursday the Museum presents Museum After Hours, opening the doors after hours to partner with and embrace Mississippi's creative community. These collaborations feature combinations of one-night pop up exhibitions and dining experiences, live music, outdoor movies, and more. Each month has a new theme and a new story.

This month, from 5:30 - 10 PM on Thursday, February 18, we celebrate Jackson practitioners of the printed arts with Museum After Hours – “CrookedLetterPress.” Kristen Ley and her team at Thimblepress showcase collaborative work - including the signature letter press products that have made the small business a national brand - alongside art by individual members of the Thimble Team (Kristen Ley, Kate Freeman, Bekah Bohlen, and Mary Kathryn Sharpe). Sandra Murchison and Kristen Todell-Williams of the Purple Word Center for Book & Paper Arts join the party with a participatory studio activity where visitors can create their own work. Beginning at 6:30 PM, Alex Fraser and Standard Issues both perform live. Immerse yourself in creativity – come make your mark.

“Each month, our Third Thursday events allow us to showcase some of the incredible work being done by contemporary artists and creators,” said Betsy Bradley, Director of the Museum. “Our February program spotlights yet another layer of the state’s compelling artistic story.”

In addition to the Museum After Hours pop up exhibition anchoring the evening, Third Thursday components also include a pop up restaurant by Executive Chef and Culinary Curator Nick Wallace, part of his monthly ‘sipp Sourced pop up dining experiences. This month’s ephemeral culinary pop up theme is “Art of the Burger” featuring playful renditions of the ubiquitous sandwich. Vegan and vegetarian options complement a selection of savory proteins, sourced from local Mississippi farmers. This month also celebrates the one year birthday of the series. ‘sipp Sourced is available for lunch Thursday, February 18 – Saturday, February 20, 11 – 2 PM, and at Museum After Hours, 5:30 PM – til. Sponsored by Capital City Beverages.
